About Bristol Index
What is it all about? Why are we here?

The Internet World Wide Web is a wonderful place, full of exciting and exotic sites. Among its wonders you are sure to find information on any topic you desire.

The problem is...
Where to find all this information.

Men and women in business are busy people. They don't want to waste time browsing the internet, they want immediate access to information: ordered yellow pages rather than a filing cabinet full of flyers.

Nor is it only business people who are in a hurry. There are local and national sites with a varied enough range to interest the whole family, if only it didn't take such a long time call to find them. Sites that suggest what to do on a rainy holiday. Sites that tell you if the museum is open on Sundays. Events calendars as long as a childhood summer. And what was the name of that delightful restaurant again? The one where the kids tripped up the waiter?

Bristol Index is founded upon the premiss that
people in a hurry want instant answers.

Bristol Index is designed to give fast and organised access to Web sites in Bristol and the surrounding area. But it does not stop there. There are an increasing number of key town and county sites around Britain, built by people who know their own area well. Bristol Index aims to include these sites.

We do not wish to take away your pleasure at browsing for exotic sites when you have the time. The World Wide Web is chaotic, but chaos is a wonderful thing and should be nurtured. We only wish to make Web access easier, quicker and less frustrating for you on those occasions when you cannot afford the time to dance with chaos.

What is Bristol Index?
Bristol Index is a site devoted to the Bristol community and its near neighbours. It provides an easy to follow index of businesses, events, entertainment, leisure and community links and contacts for Bristol and the surrounding area.

Not all are web site links. Some contacts may not even have email. What they do have is relevance to Bristol. Even the non-local sites have some relevance to Bristol or are of significant interest to its inhabitants.

To register your business or web site with us, check out the Registration link. You do not need a web site to register most things - try us. However, if you would like a web site of your own - or even an on-line advert - contact us for a quote.

If you have a comment about Bristol Index, or would like to discuss a link - or even an advertisement - please contact us. Contact details are given below, and email links and registration form links are scattered throughout the site.
If you're having trouble navigating Bristol Index, check out the Help option in the menu and select Help on Bristol Index from there.

And then there was Bristol Index
Bristol Index is an Internet project of benefit to Bristol and the surrounding area. The site was officially launched by web designers Linkcheck Limited on 2nd April 1996 (April 1st seemed somehow inauspicious).

The Index is an attempt to bring order to the web's chaos for those who need it, from businesses looking for information in a hurry, to domestic users with a tight telephone budget. The aim is to put up an index of all web sites in and around Bristol plus sites from elsewhere that will benefit the area. Where a web site does not exist, we'll put up email contacts. For organisations that Bristolians consider important but who have neither web site nor email address, we'll put up telephone or other contact details and ask them why they haven't.

One thing we need to make Bristol Index work for you is your contacts. Web, email, whatever, we need contacts that Bristolians and our neighbours feel are important to know about. We're particularly interested in community and social projects, as well as businesses. Bristol is where we live and work. It needs to be kept healthy and active.

It's not all business and community though. We index hobby and personal sites as well. Events calendars also feature strongly in our plans. We want Bristol to know what's going on.

If you have favourite web sites that might be of interest to Bristol Index, please register the details with us.
